Late spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) are the finest times, with warm, dry days ideal for boat trips, walking the Lycian Way and sightseeing without the peak heat. July and August are hot, around 30 to 35C, and busy but perfect for beach days and the Blue Lagoon, while winter is mild, green and much quieter but wetter, with many tourist businesses closed.
Summer sun on the Turquoise Coast is strong, and sites like the rock tombs, Kayakoy and Saklikent offer little shade. Carry water, wear a hat and sunscreen, and plan outdoor visits for the morning or late afternoon rather than the fierce midday heat.
The sea is usually calm, but check conditions before swimming off open beaches and stay within your ability on boat trips and in the gorge. For paragliding and watersports, choose licensed, well-reviewed operators, listen to the safety briefing and do not fly in poor weather.
Mountain roads to Oludeniz and Saklikent are winding, and rented scooters and quad bikes cause many tourist injuries. Drive cautiously, wear a helmet, take care as a pedestrian on narrow resort roads, and be alert crossing busy streets in the centre.
