Its heart is Kaleiçi, a walled old town of narrow cobbled lanes, Ottoman houses and the honey-coloured Hadrian's Gate, built for a visiting Roman emperor in…

Antalya piyazDishMiansari66 / Wikimedia Commons (CC0)

Antalya piyaz

A creamy white-bean salad bound with a tahini-lemon-garlic sauce called tarator, topped with boiled egg and onion — richer and more filling than the simpler bean salads found elsewhere in Turkey.

TantuniDishJoquee / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Tantuni

Finely chopped, spiced beef stir-fried on a flat griddle and rolled into soft lavash bread with onion and sumac. Originally from Mersin, it is now one of the Turkish Riviera's favourite quick street meals.

Şiş köfteDishE4024 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Şiş köfte

Seasoned minced-meat kebab shaped onto skewers and grilled over charcoal, usually served with flatbread, grilled tomato and sumac-dusted onions — a classic Antalya grill-house order, often paired with piyaz.

Kabak tatlısı (candied pumpkin)SweetE4024 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Kabak tatlısı (candied pumpkin)

Thick pumpkin slices slow-simmered in sugar syrup until tender and glossy, served cold with a scattering of crushed walnuts and a spoon of clotted cream (kaymak) or tahini.

Beste Reisezeit

April–Juni und September–Oktober

Spring (April to mid-June) and autumn (September to mid-October) bring warm, comfortable days without the peak-season crowds, and are the best window for exploring ruins on foot. Summer (July-August) is very hot, often above 34°C, and beaches and sights are at their busiest. Winter is mild by European standards but cool and sometimes rainy, with quieter streets and lower prices.

Sicherheit

VorsichtJuly and August bring intense heat well above 34°C with strong midday sun. Carry water, wear sun protection, and plan ruin visits (Aspendos, Kaleiçi walking) for early morning or late afternoon.
VorsichtAntalya's boulevards carry heavy, fast-moving traffic and some crossings are poorly marked. Use signalled crossings where possible and take extra care around the harbour and old-town entrances where scooters mix with pedestrians.
VorsichtThe nightlife strips around Kaleiçi and Lara see the highest concentration of bar and bill scams after dark. Stick to venues you chose yourself and keep your group together at night.

Geheime Schätze

Walk down to the old harbour in Kaleiçi at sunset, when the honey-coloured walls glow and the crowds thin out.
Visit Aspendos in the late afternoon for softer light and far fewer tour buses than the midday rush.
Swim at the quieter western end of Konyaaltı, away from the main beach entrances, for a calmer stretch of pebble shore.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

How many days should I spend in Antalya?

Two to three days covers Kaleiçi, a beach afternoon and a half-day trip to Aspendos comfortably. Add more time if you plan to use Antalya as a base for Pamukkale or other day trips.

Is Antalya mainly a beach resort or a historic city?

Both. The walled old town of Kaleiçi and nearby Roman sites give it real historic depth, while Konyaaltı and Lara beaches make it one of Turkey's biggest resort destinations, so it suits travellers wanting a mix of the two.

What is the cheapest way from the airport to the centre?

The AntRay tram or bus 600, both paid with an AntalyaKart, cost a fraction of a taxi fare. A metered taxi is faster but costs several times more.

Do I need a car to see the sights around Antalya?

Not essential. Aspendos and Düden Waterfalls are reachable by organised tour, dolmuş or taxi, though a rental car gives more flexibility for combining several sights in one day.

Is Antalya safe for solo travellers?

Generally yes, with normal city-travel caution. The main risk is the nightlife bar-bill scam rather than street crime, so the simplest protection is choosing your own venues and avoiding unsolicited invitations at night.
