Dubai

A futuristic desert metropolis of skyscrapers, souks and sand

Zuverlässigkeit 84%
Verifiziert 4. August 2026 · 2 Quellen · Zuverlässigkeit 84%

Übersicht

Dubai is the largest city in the United Arab Emirates and one of the world's most striking modern metropolises, rising from the desert on the shore of the Arabian Gulf. It is famous for record-breaking architecture, from the soaring Burj Khalifa to vast shopping malls and man-made islands, yet it also keeps an older character along the historic Creek, where wooden abra boats still ferry passengers past the gold and spice souks. Visitors can ski indoors, dine at the top of a tower, wander a heritage district and ride into the dunes on a desert safari, often in a single trip. Dubai is famously safe, clean and well organised, with an excellent metro and reliable taxis, so the main things to watch are the extreme summer heat, higher prices at tourist hotspots, and a few local laws and customs worth respecting. With sunshine most of the year and easy connections, it makes a comfortable, family-friendly base for exploring the region.

Metro from the airport
pro Fahrt
4–11 AED · 1–3 $

The metro connects the airport directly to the city and is very cheap with a Nol card. It is the best-value option outside the metro's late-night closing hours, when a taxi is needed.

Official taxi from the airport
pro Fahrt
44–92 AED · 12–25 $

Use only the official airport taxi rank, where fares are metered and fair. Ignore anyone offering a 'taxi' inside the terminal, as unofficial cars overcharge.

Single Metro ride
pro Fahrt
4–9 AED · 1–3 $

Buy a Nol card and tap in and out. The metro is clean, cheap and covers most tourist areas. Note the Gold Class and women-and-children carriages, and avoid the rush-hour crush.

Abra boat crossing
pro Fahrt
1–6 AED · 0–2 $

The traditional wooden abra across the Creek costs only a few dirhams paid in cash on board. It is one of the city's best-value experiences and a lovely way to reach the souks.

Mid-range restaurant meal
pro Person
44–129 AED · 12–35 $

Old Dubai and neighbourhood spots offer good food at fair prices, while restaurants in malls and marina towers cost more. A service charge is often already included, so check the bill.

Karak tea from a cafeteria
per cup
1–6 AED · 0–2 $

The city's beloved spiced milk tea is very cheap from local cafeterias. It is a great, inexpensive way to take a break away from the pricier cafes in the malls.

Shawarma from a local spot
per item
6–18 AED · 2–5 $

A shawarma from a busy neighbourhood cafeteria is filling and cheap, a fraction of mall food-court prices. Look for places with a steady local crowd.

Häufige Maschen

Unofficial taxi overcharge
Mittel

Wie es funktioniert: A driver at the airport or a tourist hotspot offers a 'taxi' off the official rank, then charges a flat, inflated fare with no meter, sometimes claiming the meter is broken.

Wie man es vermeidet: Use only official metered taxis from the proper rank, a licensed ride-hailing app, or the metro. Insist on the meter, and ignore anyone touting rides inside terminals or outside malls.

Fake or misrepresented gold and goods
Mittel

Wie es funktioniert: In the souks and from street sellers, 'gold', gemstones or branded watches and bags are sold as genuine but are fake, underweight, or a lower purity than claimed.

Wie man es vermeidet: Buy gold from reputable shops that state the purity and weigh openly at the posted daily rate, and get a proper receipt. Treat 'designer' branded goods from street sellers as counterfeit.

Hidden charges at tourist spots
Niedrig

Wie es funktioniert: Some cafes, beach clubs or venues near the big attractions add unexpected service charges, minimum spends or inflated prices that are not clearly displayed.

Wie man es vermeidet: Check prices, minimum spends and service charges before ordering or sitting down. A service charge and taxes are often already built in, so read the menu and confirm the total.

Cut-price desert tour upsell
Niedrig

Wie es funktioniert: A very cheap desert safari is advertised, then on the day extras like transfers, dune driving, dinner or photos are charged separately, or the experience is rushed and crowded.

Wie man es vermeidet: Book with a reputable operator and confirm in writing exactly what is included, the group size and pickup details. Be sceptical of prices far below the norm, as they usually mean hidden costs.

Wie man dort hinkommt
Metro from the airport 45 Min.4–11 AED · 1–3 $

Official airport taxi 25 Min.44–92 AED · 12–25 $

Metered taxis from the official rank are fair and convenient, especially with luggage or late at night. Avoid anyone offering an off-rank ride inside the terminal.

Ride-hailing apps 25 Min.44–110 AED · 12–30 $

Licensed ride-hailing apps work well across the city with upfront pricing. A convenient door-to-door option, though often a little pricier than a standard metered taxi.

Dubai Metro4–9 AED · 1–3 $

A clean, modern, mostly driverless network linking the airport, Downtown, Marina and more. Cheap with a Nol card and the easiest way to avoid traffic; some carriages are Gold Class or for women and children.

A tram serves the Marina and Jumeirah area and connects with the metro, while an extensive bus network reaches the rest. All use the same Nol card as the metro.

Beste Reisezeit

Januar–März und November–Dezember

The cooler months from November to March are by far the best time, with warm, sunny days ideal for the beach, desert and sightseeing. Summer from June to September is extremely hot and humid, often above 42C, when outdoor activity is limited to early morning, evening and air-conditioned indoor attractions.

Sicherheit

WarnungSummer heat and humidity are severe, and prolonged time outdoors can be dangerous. Stay hydrated, limit midday sun, use shade and air conditioning, and plan outdoor sights and the desert for the cooler months or the early and late hours.
VorsichtDubai is safe and welcoming but has laws and customs worth respecting. Dress modestly away from the beach and pools, avoid public displays of affection, do not drink alcohol outside licensed venues, and be discreet during Ramadan daylight hours.
VorsichtRoads are wide and traffic moves fast, and jaywalking is both dangerous and fined. Cross only at designated crossings and signals, use the many pedestrian bridges and underpasses, and take extra care around fast multi-lane roads.

Geheime Schätze

Cross the Creek on a traditional abra boat for a few dirhams, one of the city's best-value and most atmospheric rides.
Explore the restored lanes and courtyards of the Al Fahidi heritage district for a glimpse of old Dubai away from the towers.
Watch the free evening Fountain show from the lakeside promenade beneath the Burj Khalifa.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

How many days should I spend in Dubai?

Three to four days cover the Burj Khalifa and Downtown, old Dubai and the souks, a beach day and a desert safari at a comfortable pace. Add time for theme parks, day trips or more relaxing.

Is Dubai expensive?

It can be, but it does not have to be. Hotels, malls and marina dining are pricey, while the metro, abra rides, old Dubai eateries and public beaches are excellent value. Mixing the two keeps costs down.

What should I wear in Dubai?

Beachwear is fine at pools and beaches, but away from them dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, especially in malls, souks and heritage areas. Respectful dress avoids problems and is expected.

What is the best way to get around?

The metro is cheap, clean and covers most tourist areas with a Nol card, backed up by plentiful metered taxis and ride-hailing apps for door-to-door trips and late nights when the metro is closed.

When is the best time to visit?

November to March offers warm, sunny weather ideal for the beach, desert and sightseeing. Summer is extremely hot and humid, best suited to indoor attractions and early or late outdoor activity.
