A direct SBB train links Zurich Airport with Lucerne in around an hour, with more options via Zurich main station. Comfortable, frequent and far better value than a taxi. Buy from the SBB app or station machines.
Frequent direct trains run from Zurich's central station (HB) to Lucerne in roughly 50 minutes to an hour. Ideal if you are coming from the city rather than the airport, and covered by rail passes.
A taxi or private car from Zurich Airport to Lucerne is quick door-to-door but very expensive by Swiss standards. Worth it only for groups with heavy luggage or late arrivals; otherwise the train is far cheaper.
Lucerne's trolleybuses and buses cover the hills and outer sights on a simple zone fare. Many hotels provide a guest card with free or reduced local transport, so ask on check-in.
