Comment l'éviter: Demandez le prix avant d'accepter quoi que ce soit, ayez de petites coupures, et notez que les kiosques fixes affichent généralement des prix plus clairs que les vendeurs ambulants.
Comment ça fonctionne: Des personnes se faisant passer pour des policiers en civil vous arrêtent pour « vérifier » votre portefeuille, passeport ou argent à la recherche de faux, puis subtilisent des espèces ou des cartes.
Comment l'éviter: De vrais officiers n'inspectent pas votre argent dans la rue. Ne remettez pas votre portefeuille, proposez de marcher jusqu'à un commissariat ou une zone animée, et gardez vos documents en sécurité.
Comment ça fonctionne: Des machines dans des endroits calmes sont équipées de lecteurs de cartes clonés ou de caméras cachées, ou un « assistant » propose son aide pour capturer votre carte et votre code PIN.
Comment l'éviter: Utilisez des distributeurs à l'intérieur des banques ou des centres commerciaux en journée, couvrez le clavier, refusez toute aide, et vérifiez que la fente de la carte n'a rien de détaché.
Comment ça fonctionne: Un chauffeur prétend que le compteur est cassé, applique le tarif de nuit plus élevé en plein jour, ou fait un long détour pour gonfler la course.
Comment l'éviter: Préférez une application de VTC affichant le prix à l'avance. Dans un taxi de rue, exigez le compteur, surveillez l'itinéraire sur votre téléphone, et payez avec de petites coupures.
Comment ça fonctionne: Criminals briefly seize a victim — often near nightlife, bars or after a rideshare mix-up — and force them to withdraw cash at ATMs or send money by PIX instant transfer up to their daily limit before releasing them.
Comment l'éviter: This is uncommon for careful visitors but real: set a low daily PIX and ATM limit, avoid flashing wealth, use booked ride apps rather than street taxis at night, and if targeted, comply calmly — your safety is worth more than the money.
Comment ça fonctionne: Thieves on foot or on motorbikes grab phones from hands and necklaces from necks in a second, often at traffic lights, crowded corners or while you stand filming or navigating on the street.
Comment l'éviter: Keep your phone in your pocket on the move and step into a shop or cafe to use it, wear no visible jewellery, and stay alert at intersections. A cheap second phone for the street saves your main one.
Comment ça fonctionne: At the Municipal Market, some fruit-stall vendors press free 'tastings' of exotic fruit on tourists, then bag a large amount and demand a wildly inflated price — visitors have reported being charged hundreds of reais for a small selection.
Comment l'éviter: Politely decline unsolicited tastings, ask the price per kilo up front, and say exactly how much you want. Buy only what you have agreed a price for, and walk away if a vendor gets pushy.

Comment l'éviter: Use an app like Uber or 99 where the price is fixed in advance. In a metered taxi insist on the meter and the correct tariff, and follow the route on your phone's map.
Comment ça fonctionne: In crowds, on public transport or at outdoor tables, a team distracts you — a spilled drink, a dropped item, a question or a fake petition — while an accomplice lifts your bag, wallet or phone.
