Comment ça fonctionne: Des dealers de rue, souvent près du centre et du quartier rouge, proposent aux touristes des drogues fausses, coupées avec des substances nocives ou servant de prétexte à un vol. Leur acheter quelque chose est à la fois risqué et illégal.
Comment l'éviter: N'achetez jamais rien à un dealer de rue. C'est dangereux et illégal, et les pilules ou poudres vendues ainsi ont causé de graves préjudices. Éloignez-vous de quiconque vous en propose.
Fausses réclamations de dommages sur vélo de location
Comment ça fonctionne: Certains loueurs photographient un vélo, puis prétendent découvrir des rayures préexistantes ou un vélo « volé » après que vous l'ayez rendu, exigeant des frais élevés sur votre carte ou caution.
Comment l'éviter: Louez dans une boutique établie et bien notée, photographiez vous-même le vélo avant de rouler, conservez votre reçu, et attachez-le toujours correctement à un support fixe avec les cadenas fournis.
Majoration des restaurants pièges à touristes
Comment ça fonctionne: Les restaurants le long de Damrak et autour des places principales attirent les passants avec des menus en photos, puis servent une nourriture médiocre à des prix gonflés avec des suppléments inattendus.
Comment l'éviter: Évitez les endroits où le personnel vous fait signe d'entrer et où chaque plat est en photo. Marchez quelques rues vers le Jordaan ou De Pijp, vérifiez les prix imprimés, et choisissez des endroits fréquentés par les habitants.
Pickpockets dans les tramways et les foules
Comment ça fonctionne: Des voleurs opèrent dans les tramways bondés, à la gare Centraal et dans les lieux touristiques surpeuplés, dérobant téléphones et portefeuilles pendant la cohue de la montée ou lors d'une bousculade orchestrée.
Comment l'éviter: Gardez votre sac fermé et devant vous, tenez votre téléphone fermement, et soyez particulièrement vigilant quand un tramway est bondé ou que quelqu'un vous bouscule. N'emportez que ce dont vous avez besoin pour la journée.
Comment ça fonctionne: The most realistic risk for visitors. Thieves work the crush at Rotterdam Centraal, in the Markthal and busy shopping streets, and on packed trams and metros, sometimes using a distraction such as asking for directions or dropping something to lift a phone or wallet.
Comment l'éviter: Keep your bag zipped and in front of you, secure your phone, and be extra alert when a tram or platform is crowded or someone bumps into you. Carry only what you need for the day and stay aware in the busiest tourist spots.
Bike-rental damage disputes
Comment ça fonctionne: A handful of rental outlets may photograph a bike and later claim pre-existing scratches, or charge a large fee for a bike reported as 'damaged' or stolen, taking it from your card or deposit.
Comment l'éviter: Rent from a well-reviewed, established shop, photograph the bike yourself before riding, keep your receipt, and always lock it properly to a fixed stand with the locks provided. Ask up front exactly what happens if the bike is damaged.
Overpriced tourist-strip dining
Comment ça fonctionne: A few restaurants in the busiest, most tourist-facing spots near the main sights charge premium prices for average food, banking on the location and passing foot traffic rather than quality.
Comment l'éviter: Walk a street or two away from the busiest squares and the riverside, look for where locals and office workers eat, and check the printed menu and prices before you sit down. The same money buys much better food a short walk on.
Fake charity petitions and collectors
Comment ça fonctionne: Occasionally around the centre and stations, people with clipboards or official-looking badges ask you to sign a petition or donate to a 'charity', either to distract you for a pickpocket or to pressure a cash donation that goes nowhere.
Comment l'éviter: Politely decline and keep walking; genuine charities do not chase tourists for on-the-spot cash. Do not stop to sign anything in a crowd or hand over money, and keep your bag secure while you move away.
Taxi long-routing and no-meter fares
Comment ça fonctionne: A minority of street taxis may take a longer route or quote an inflated flat price rather than running the meter, especially with visitors who do not know the city or the fair fare.
Comment l'éviter: Use the official taxi rank or a booking app such as Uber, insist the meter is used in a street taxi, and check the route on your phone. For most trips the metro, tram or a water taxi is cheaper and just as quick.
