These are the tourist scams Trzly has documented across Canada, grouped by destination. Each one is real, with a clear way to stay safe. Read before you land.
Come funziona: Some unlicensed cars pose as taxis with generic roof signs, especially around the airport and nightlife areas, overcharging tourists or, in reported cases, using a 'card only' machine to swap your card and steal the PIN.
Come evitarla: Use only licensed taxis from official ranks (with a visible licence, company logo and driver ID) or a named rideshare app. At Pearson, take the marked taxi line or the UP Express train. Never hand your card to a driver's handheld machine you can't see.
Fake attraction tickets
Come funziona: People near the CN Tower and other big sights sometimes sell 'discount' tickets that turn out to be invalid or already used, leaving you out of pocket at the gate.
Come evitarla: Buy tickets only from official websites, the box office, or a reputable seller such as CityPASS. Ignore unsolicited street sellers offering deals that seem too good to be true.
Pickpocketing on transit
Come funziona: Crowded subway cars and streetcars, especially at rush hour and near tourist stops, are where the occasional pickpocket operates, and bags left on chairs in busy cafes can be lifted.
Come evitarla: Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket or a zipped bag in front of you on busy transit, and never leave a bag or phone unattended to 'save' a seat or table.

Come funziona: Restaurants clustered right around the CN Tower, the Eaton Centre and the busiest tourist strips charge premium prices for average food aimed at visitors who don't know the city.
Come evitarla: Walk a few blocks into Chinatown, Kensington Market, Little Italy or Greektown, where locals eat far better for far less. Check reviews and prices before sitting down near a major attraction.
