概要

Mumbai, once known as Bombay, is India's largest city and its financial and entertainment capital, a dense peninsula of colonial-era stone, glassy towers, fishing villages and endless human energy. It is the home of Bollywood, the country's biggest stock exchange and some of Asia's most striking Gothic and Art Deco…

Gateway of India

Mumbai's signature waterfront arch, built to overlook the harbour and now the city's busiest meeting point, free to admire day and night. The square buzzes with vendors, photographers and touts, so enjoy the monument but keep your bag close. It is also the jetty for ferries to Elephanta Island.

Elephanta Caves

A UNESCO-listed set of rock-cut Hindu cave temples on Gharapuri (Elephanta) Island, reached by a roughly one-hour ferry from the Gateway of India. The carvings, including the great three-headed Shiva, are remarkable. Go early, allow half a day, and note the site is closed on Mondays.

Marine Drive

A sweeping seafront promenade curving along the Arabian Sea, lined with Art Deco buildings and, after dark, the string of lights that gives it the nickname the Queen's Necklace. Free and open at all hours, it is where Mumbaikars stroll, court and watch the sunset. Best in the evening.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

A vast Victorian-Gothic railway station, a UNESCO World Heritage Site once called Victoria Terminus and still one of the busiest stations in India. Admire the ornate stone facade and, if you can, step inside to feel the rush of the suburban network. Free to view from outside.

Taste it here

The must-try local dishes, sweets and fruits — including the exotic ones you won't find back home.

Vada pavDishDeepeshmd / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 3.0)

Vada pav

Mumbai's beloved street burger: a spiced mashed-potato fritter (vada) deep-fried in gram-flour batter and tucked into a soft bread bun (pav) with dry garlic chutney, green chutney and a fried chilli. Cheap, filling and sold on almost every corner, it is the true fast food of the city.

Eat it fresh and hot from a busy stall; ask for it with extra dry garlic chutney and a fried green chilli on the side, the local way.

Pav bhajiDishRishika Palvankar / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 2.0)

Pav bhaji

A thick, buttery mash of mixed vegetables spiced with a special masala, served on a hot griddle with soft bread rolls fried in butter, chopped onion and a squeeze of lime. Born in the mills of Mumbai as a quick workers' meal, it is now a favourite at Chowpatty beach.

Have it at a beachside or busy local stall in the evening, and do not be shy about the generous knob of butter that makes it what it is.

Bhel puriDishSarabpreet Singh Bahi / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Bhel puri

The city's most democratic snack: puffed rice tossed with crisp sev, chopped onion, tomato, potato, tangy tamarind and green chutneys, mixed to order so it is crunchy, sweet, sour and spicy all at once. A cousin of sev puri and other chaats sold along the seafront.

Eat it the moment it is mixed, before the puffed rice softens; Chowpatty and Marine Drive stalls are the classic spots.

Bombay sandwichDishPrincejain17 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Bombay sandwich

A cool, vegetarian street sandwich of thin white bread layered with boiled potato, cucumber, tomato, onion, beetroot and green chutney, often griddled with butter into a 'grilled' version and finished with sev. Simple, fresh and unmistakably Mumbai.

Ask for the toasted or grilled version with extra chutney and a sprinkle of sev on top for the full effect.

Misal pavDishJayanandS / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Misal pav

A fiery Maharashtrian breakfast of sprouted-bean curry (usal) topped with crunchy farsan, chopped onion, coriander and lime, served with bread rolls to scoop up the spicy gravy. It ranges from mild to seriously hot depending on the stall.

Warn the cook if you want it milder, and mix the crunchy topping in gradually; a glass of buttermilk helps tame the heat.

Drink

Cutting chai

A small glass of strong, sweet, milky, spiced tea, the 'cutting' being a half-measure meant to be drunk quickly on a break or shared between two. Sold at every corner tea stall for a few rupees, it is the social lubricant and everyday fuel of the city.

Order it alongside a bun maska (buttered bun) at an old Irani cafe for a classic Mumbai pick-me-up.

Taxi or rickshaw refuses the meter

手口: A driver claims the meter is broken, tampers with it, or simply quotes a high flat fare once he sees you are a tourist, leaving you to pay several times the real price. Tampered meters are a well-documented problem in the city.

避け方: Insist on the meter before you set off, and ask your hotel what a typical fare should be. If the driver refuses, take another or book an Uber or Ola, which fix the price in the app and remove the argument entirely.

Book everything — at the honest price

Trzly compares across the big providers and points you to the cheapest. We don't take your booking or hold your money — we send you straight to the source, name the price, and warn you about scams.

How Trzly ranks

Cheapest for you first — never by commission. When booking direct is cheaper, we say so, even when we earn nothing. Rank order is a function of price and trust only.

Insider tricks for the lowest price

Real tactics that actually save you money — we surface them, not just talk.

  • Always pay in the local currency — decline "pay in your currency" (DCC) to save 3–7%.
  • Open in a private window and clear cookies — some sites raise the price on repeat visits.
  • A transit/layover flight is usually cheaper than a direct one — worth the stop.
  • Book flights on Tuesday/Wednesday; avoid Friday and Sunday.
  • Book hotels direct on their own site — the member rate often beats the middlemen.
  • Ask for the "app-only rate" — often hidden from the public price.
  • Free cancellation? Book now and re-book if the price drops later.
  • Buy attraction tickets on the official site, not a reseller — no service fee.
  • A local eSIM instead of roaming — up to 90% cheaper.
  • Set a price alert and watch for the drop before high season.

アクセスと移動

観光客価格ではなく、実際の運賃。

行き方
Prepaid airport taxi 50 分$6 ~ $10

The official prepaid and cool-cab counters inside the terminal fix the fare to your destination on a receipt, avoiding negotiation. Convenient with luggage or on late arrivals, with a normal night surcharge. Use the marked counter, not a tout.

Uber or Ola from the airport 50 分$5 ~ $9

Ride-hailing apps work at both terminals from designated pick-up points and are often cheaper and clearer than a taxi, with the fare fixed in the app. You will need a local SIM or airport wifi to book and find your driver.

Suburban train from nearby stations 1 時間無料 – $1

The cheapest link is a short taxi or rickshaw to Andheri or Vile Parle station on the Western Line, then a local train south to Churchgate in around 40 minutes. Very cheap and fast, but crowded and not ideal with heavy luggage.

現地での移動
Suburban local trains無料 – $1

Mumbai's lifeline, the local trains carry millions daily and are the fastest way to cover the long north-south city for only a few rupees. They are packed at peak times, so travel off-peak, watch the open doors, and use first class or the women's carriage for space.

Black-and-yellow taxis$1 ~ $4

The classic kaali-peeli taxis run mainly in south and central Mumbai and are metered and cheap. Insist on the meter and a fare card; they are handy where auto-rickshaws are not allowed, though app cabs are often clearer on price.

Auto-rickshaws無料 – $2

Three-wheeler autos are the cheap workhorses of the suburbs but are barred from the southern tip of the city. They are metered, so ask for the meter and the conversion card, and keep small change handy for short hops.

Uber and Ola$2 ~ $8

Ride-hailing apps cover the whole city, fix the fare in advance and track the route, which makes them the easiest way to avoid fare disputes. Prices rise in rush hour and rain and fall late at night.

Walking the south

The southern district around Colaba, the Gateway and Fort is compact, flat and full of grand architecture, best explored on foot. Traffic is heavy and crossings are informal, so cross with the crowd and watch for bikes weaving through.

ベストシーズン

1月–2月、11月–12月

The best time to visit is the cool, dry winter from November to February, with pleasant days around 20 to 30 degrees ideal for sightseeing. March to May grows hot and very humid, and the southwest monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain and occasional flooding that can snarl traffic and trains, though the green, storm-washed city has its own dramatic appeal.

安全

注意During the monsoon from June to September, heavy downpours can flood low-lying roads and railway tracks within hours, stranding traffic and suspending local trains. Check the forecast, avoid underpasses in heavy rain, allow extra time, and keep some cash and a charged phone for disruptions.
注意Mumbai is dense and its traffic is relentless, with informal crossings and bikes weaving through gaps, so cross with locals and stay alert. Petty theft and pickpocketing occur in crowds, on packed trains and around tourist sights, so keep bags zipped and in front and phones secure.
注意Street food is a highlight but can upset an unaccustomed stomach, so choose busy stalls with fresh, hot, high-turnover food and build up gradually. Drink bottled or filtered water, skip ice and raw salads if unsure, and carry basic stomach remedies and hand sanitiser.

隠れた名所

Ride a second-class suburban train one stop off peak, or take the ferry across the harbour, to feel the working city the way Mumbaikars do every day.
Watch the sunset from Marine Drive or Chowpatty beach with a plate of bhel puri, then join the evening crowd strolling the promenade as the Queen's Necklace lights come on.
Wander the Kala Ghoda and Fort district on foot for its Art Deco and Gothic architecture, small galleries and old Irani cafes serving bun maska and chai.

よくある質問

How many days do I need in Mumbai?

Two to three days cover the southern highlights: the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Colaba, a museum and a half-day trip to the Elephanta Caves, with time for street food and a sunset. Add more days for Bollywood studio tours, markets or day trips out of the city.

Is Mumbai safe for tourists?

Yes, Mumbai is generally safe by big-city standards and locals are welcoming. Violent crime against visitors is rare; the main issues are taxi and rickshaw drivers avoiding the meter, crowds and petty theft, and the monsoon, all of which are manageable with a little care and ride-hailing apps.

What is the best way to get around?

For south Mumbai, walking plus black-and-yellow taxis or Uber and Ola works well. For longer trips north, the suburban local trains are cheapest and fastest but very crowded at peak times. Auto-rickshaws serve the suburbs but not the southern tip.

When should I avoid visiting?

The monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain and occasional flooding that can disrupt travel, and the pre-monsoon months of April and May are hot and very humid. The cool, dry winter from November to February is the most comfortable time to visit.

What currency is used and are cards accepted?

India uses the Indian rupee (INR). Cards and UPI apps are widely accepted in hotels, malls and restaurants, but carry cash in small notes for taxis, rickshaws, street food, markets and entry fees, where cash is still king.
