A deep, circular sinkhole about 10km north of town and one of the Red Sea's most famous dive and snorkel sites. Snorkellers stay in the shallow reef and lagoon, while the deeper Arch is for technical divers only. Go with a reputable dive centre; the day trip usually includes transport, gear and the checkpoint and site fees.
The house reef right in the centre of Dahab, entered straight from the promenade and ideal for easy shore snorkelling and beginner dives. Sheltered from strong currents, it teems with coral and fish just metres from the cafes. Bring or rent a mask and fins and simply wade in.
Dahab's wide, shallow, flat-water lagoon is one of the region's best spots to learn windsurfing or kitesurfing, with steady wind and waist-deep water. Several schools rent gear and run lessons for all levels. A fun, active break from the diving.
A half-day trip up the coast into a protected wilderness reserve, reached by camel with a Bedouin guide or by boat from the Blue Hole. The reward is empty beaches and pristine reefs for snorkelling. Agree the full price, including snorkel time and any lunch, before you set off.

Catch is usually sold by weight, from whole fish to calamari and shrimp, with salads, rice and bread on the side.
Ask the price per kilo and confirm the weight of your fish before it is cooked to avoid surprises on the bill.

If a shopkeeper or guide offers you a glass, accepting is a friendly gesture and a nice way to slow down and chat.

The public bus links Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab in around 90 minutes and is the cheapest way between the two, though it runs only a few times a day and does not serve the airport directly. Buy tickets at the bus station.
A pre-booked private car or taxi from Sharm El Sheikh airport is the easiest way to reach Dahab, taking about 90 minutes door to door. Agree the fixed price in advance; sharing with other arrivals lowers the cost.
Long-distance East Delta and GoBus coaches connect Cairo with Dahab in roughly eight to nine hours, an affordable overnight option. The route crosses the Suez area and several Sinai checkpoints, so keep your passport handy.
Blue pickup trucks work as shared and private taxis around town and to nearby sites. There are no meters, so agree the fare first. Cheap for short hops, and easy to flag down along the main road.
Along the coast road, pickups run informal shared routes for a few pounds a seat, filling up as they go. A cheap, local way to travel short distances if you are not in a hurry and happy to wait for others.
Central Dahab is small and flat, and the seafront promenade linking Mashraba, the Lighthouse and Eel Garden is best explored on foot. Most cafes, dive centres and shops are within an easy stroll of one another.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the finest, with warm days, calm seas and comfortable water for diving and snorkelling. Summer is very hot and the sun is fierce, though the sea stays inviting and evenings are pleasant. Winter is mild and sunny by day but can be cool and windy, and the water turns chilly, so bring a wetsuit and warm layers for desert trips.
Most visitors fly into Sharm El Sheikh airport and take a private transfer or shared car for the roughly 90-minute drive north. Buses run from Sharm and from Cairo with East Delta and GoBus, and Cairo is about eight to nine hours away by road.
Not at all. The house reefs like the Lighthouse and Eel Garden are superb for shore snorkelling, and the lagoon is great for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Dahab is also a popular, low-cost place to learn to dive if you decide to try it.
Dahab and the South Sinai resort coast are generally safe and relaxed, with a long-standing tourist scene. The main things to manage are the strong sun, agreeing fair taxi and tour prices, choosing a reputable dive centre and respecting the sea, especially at the Blue Hole.
Three to four days let you snorkel or dive the main sites, try the lagoon and take one desert trip at a relaxed pace. Many travellers happily stay a week or more, as the town's slow rhythm makes it easy to linger.
Dahab is cheap by beach-resort standards, with good-value seafood, street food and guesthouses. Larger hotels and some dive centres take cards, but carry Egyptian pounds in cash for taxis, small restaurants, tea stalls and tips, and use the ATMs in town.
