개요

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands, set in the southeastern Aegean close to the Turkish coast, and one of Greece's most complete history-and-beach destinations. Its centrepiece is the medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe's best-preserved fortified towns, still ringed by its…

Medieval Old Town

A walled UNESCO-listed old town of cobbled lanes, the Street of the Knights, gates, courtyards and squares, free to wander at any hour. Explore early or late to beat the cruise-day crowds, and be wary of restaurants with pushy touts on the busiest streets.

Palace of the Grand Master

The great fortress-palace at the top of the Old Town, rebuilt by the Knights of St John and later restored, with grand halls and Roman-era mosaic floors. Buy a ticket at the door and allow around an hour; combined tickets with other Old Town sites can save money.

Archaeological Museum

Housed in the beautiful medieval Hospital of the Knights, this museum holds Rhodian antiquities including the delicate Aphrodite of Rhodes. A cool, atmospheric stop right in the Old Town, easy to pair with the palace and the Street of the Knights.

Lindos and its Acropolis

A whitewashed clifftop village about an hour south, crowned by an ancient acropolis with the Temple of Athena Lindia and sweeping sea views. Climb early or late to avoid the heat and crowds; decline the donkey 'taxi' up the hill if animal-welfare concerns you, as the walk is short.

The must-try local dishes, sweets and fruits — including the exotic ones you won't find back home.

PitaroudiaDishlatinsoapsfever / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0)

Pitaroudia

Rhodes' signature chickpea fritters, made from mashed chickpeas mixed with onion, tomato, mint and herbs, shaped into patties and fried until golden and crisp. A classic meze served hot with a squeeze of lemon or tzatziki, and a mainstay of Rhodian tavernas.

Order them as part of a shared meze spread with local cheese, dips and a glass of souma to eat the way locals do.

Melekouni

A protected Rhodian sesame-and-honey bar, chewy and fragrant with orange peel and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Traditionally made for weddings, baptisms and celebrations, it is now sold across the island as a wholesome, energy-rich sweet.

Buy it from a village bakery or a proper sweet shop rather than a tourist stall for the freshest, most authentic version.

Drink

Souma

A traditional Rhodian grape spirit distilled from pomace, close cousin to Cretan raki and Italian grappa, and long a fixture of island celebrations and meze tables. It is typically served in small glasses, sometimes over ice, to accompany a spread of small plates.

Sip it slowly alongside food; it is stronger than it tastes, and a little goes a long way with meze.

Gyros

The Greek street-food staple of seasoned meat roasted on a vertical spit, shaved into a warm pita with tomato, onion, tzatziki and a handful of fries. Cheap, filling and everywhere in Rhodes Town, it is the go-to quick meal between sights.

A wrapped gyros 'to go' is far cheaper than a plated version at a table, and busy grills mean fresher meat.

Loukoumades

Small deep-fried dough balls, crisp outside and soft inside, drenched in honey syrup and dusted with cinnamon or crushed walnuts. One of Greece's oldest sweets and a beloved end to a Rhodian meal or an afternoon treat.

Eat them fresh and hot, straight from the fryer; they lose their magic once they cool and the syrup soaks in.

Book everything — at the honest price

Trzly compares across the big providers and points you to the cheapest. We don't take your booking or hold your money — we send you straight to the source, name the price, and warn you about scams.

How Trzly ranks

Cheapest for you first — never by commission. When booking direct is cheaper, we say so, even when we earn nothing. Rank order is a function of price and trust only.

Insider tricks for the lowest price

Real tactics that actually save you money — we surface them, not just talk.

  • Always pay in the local currency — decline "pay in your currency" (DCC) to save 3–7%.
  • Open in a private window and clear cookies — some sites raise the price on repeat visits.
  • A transit/layover flight is usually cheaper than a direct one — worth the stop.
  • Book flights on Tuesday/Wednesday; avoid Friday and Sunday.
  • Book hotels direct on their own site — the member rate often beats the middlemen.
  • Ask for the "app-only rate" — often hidden from the public price.
  • Free cancellation? Book now and re-book if the price drops later.
  • Buy attraction tickets on the official site, not a reseller — no service fee.
  • A local eSIM instead of roaming — up to 90% cheaper.
  • Set a price alert and watch for the drop before high season.

가는 길과 현지 이동

관광객 가격이 아닌 실제 요금.

가는 길
Flight to Rhodes 55분US$45~150

Rhodes Diagoras Airport (RHO) has frequent flights from Athens in under an hour, plus direct seasonal routes from many European cities. Usually the fastest and often the cheapest way to reach the island; book early for the best summer fares.

Ferry from Piraeus 15시간US$55~150

Ferries link Rhodes with Piraeus (Athens) and other Aegean islands, but the Athens crossing is long, often overnight and best with a cabin. Scenic and good for island-hopping, though slower and subject to weather cancellations.

Airport bus 35분US$3~4

The public RODA bus runs between Diagoras Airport and Rhodes Town for a couple of euros, the cheapest transfer. Comfortable enough but it stops en route and runs to a timetable, so allow extra time on arrival.

현지 이동
Island buses (RODA and KTEL)US$2~3

Two bus companies cover the island: RODA for the town and west coast, KTEL for the east coast and Lindos. Cheap and reliable for main destinations, though services thin out in the evening and off-season.

TaxiUS$8~40

Metered taxis are easy to find in Rhodes Town and at ranks by the sites. Insist on the meter for city trips and agree fixed fares for longer island runs. Uber Taxi also operates and can be clearer on price.

Rental car or ATVUS$28~58

A small car or ATV gives the freedom to reach Lindos, Kamiros and quieter beaches on your own schedule. Roads are generally good; drive carefully on narrow coastal bends and check insurance and helmets before setting off.

방문하기 좋은 시기

5월–6월 및 9월–10월

Late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) are the sweet spot, with warm sea, hot but not extreme days and thinner crowds. July and August are hot, busy and pricey, softened by sea breezes, while winter is mild but quiet, with many resort businesses and some sites on reduced hours or closed.

안전

주의Summer sun is strong and many sites like Kamiros, the Acropolis of Lindos and the Old Town walls offer little shade. Carry water, wear a hat and sunscreen, and plan the most exposed sights for the cooler morning or late afternoon.
주의The island's western and southern tips, especially around Prasonisi, can be windy with strong currents that suit surfers more than casual swimmers. Check conditions and flags, swim at organised beaches, and take care entering the water over rocks.
주의Many visitors rent scooters, ATVs or cars, and accidents on unfamiliar coastal roads are the most common cause of injury. Wear the helmet, drive within your experience, avoid riding after drinking, and watch for gravel on bends and fast local traffic.

숨은 명소

Walk a stretch of the medieval moat, now a dry green promenade circling the Old Town walls, for a quiet perspective away from the busy lanes above.
Head to the hilltop village of Lindos for the acropolis, but stay for a rooftop dinner and the view over St Paul's Bay once the day-trippers have left.
Drive the west coast to Ancient Kamiros late in the day, then chase the sunset from the ruins of Monolithos castle further south, well off the cruise-crowd trail.

자주 묻는 질문

How many days do I need in Rhodes?

Two to three days cover the Old Town, the palace and museum and a couple of beaches. Add a day or two for Lindos, Kamiros, the Valley of the Butterflies and a rental-car loop of the island's quieter south.

How do I get from the airport to Rhodes Town?

The cheapest option is the public RODA bus for a couple of euros, which takes around 35 minutes with stops. A fixed-fare airport taxi is quicker at roughly 30 euros, and Uber Taxi also operates on the island.

Is Rhodes safe for tourists?

Yes, Rhodes is generally very safe with little serious crime against visitors. The main annoyances are inflated bills at tourist-trap restaurants, taxi drivers avoiding the meter and ATM currency-conversion fees, all easily managed with a little care.

Do I need to rent a car?

Not for the Old Town and nearby beaches, which the buses and taxis cover well. But a rental car or ATV makes it far easier to reach Lindos, Kamiros, the west coast and hidden beaches on your own schedule.

What is the best time to visit Rhodes?

May to June and September to October offer warm sea, pleasant heat and fewer crowds. July and August are hottest and busiest, while winter is mild and quiet but with many resort businesses and reduced site hours.
