Fried and baked versions are common too, and it is a centerpiece of a traditional table.
Eat the raw kibbeh only at a busy, reputable restaurant where turnover is high, scooped up with flatbread and raw onion.

Licensed taxis from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport reach the centre in around 25 minutes. Book at the official desk and agree the fixed fare in dollars rather than accepting a tout's quote.
App-based cars can be cheaper than an airport taxi and give a fixed price with no haggling. Check the pickup point, as apps sometimes meet you just outside the arrivals area.
Many hotels and guesthouses arrange an airport pickup for a set price. The easiest option late at night or on a first visit, with a named driver waiting for you.
The cheapest way around the city, following loose routes and shared with other passengers. Say 'service' and your destination first so you are charged the shared, not private, fare.
The most predictable option for visitors, with a fixed price shown in advance. Handy across town and at night, avoiding the guesswork of unmetered street taxis.
Public and privately run buses and minivans cover set routes very cheaply, but signage is limited and mostly in Arabic. Useful for the confident traveller but not the simplest for a short visit.
Central Beirut and the seafront Corniche are walkable and best enjoyed on foot, though hills, traffic and uneven pavements mean comfortable shoes and some care crossing roads.
Late spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer warm, dry weather ideal for the Corniche and outdoor dining. Summer is hot and humid with a busy social season, while winter is mild but wet, with rain and occasional cold snaps and snow on the nearby mountains.
Two to three days covers the museum, downtown, the Corniche and Pigeon Rocks, and an evening or two in Gemmayzeh and Mar Mikhael. Add more time to day-trip to Byblos, Jeita Grotto or the mountains.
Central Beirut is generally calm for visitors, but Lebanon has periods of regional tension and the situation can change. Check your government's current travel advice before and during your trip, avoid protests and the southern border area, and follow local news.
Both, but fresh US dollars in small notes are widely used and often preferred, with most prices quoted in dollars. Carry cash, as card acceptance is patchy and power cuts can take card machines offline; confirm the currency of each price.
A ride-hailing app is the most predictable and avoids fare disputes. Shared 'service' taxis are cheapest if you state 'service' and your destination first, and central Beirut and the Corniche are walkable.
Many people in Beirut speak English and French alongside Arabic, especially in hospitality, so you can get by easily. A few Arabic or French greetings are appreciated and help in markets and with older taxi drivers.
