A stunning peninsula of white-sand beaches enclosed by sheer limestone cliffs, cut off from the mainland road and reached only by longtail boat from Ao Nang or Krabi Town. Home to Railay West and East, the beautiful Phra Nang Cave Beach, and Thailand's premier rock climbing. Agree the boat fare before you cross.
The classic Krabi day trip by longtail or speedboat, visiting Phra Nang Cave, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Poda Island for snorkelling, swimming and the sandbar that links islands at low tide. Shared tours are cheap and popular; the national marine park fee is usually charged on top.
A forest temple whose main draw is the punishing climb of around 1,237 steps to a mountaintop golden Buddha and a sweeping 360-degree view over Krabi's karst landscape. Entry is free; go at dawn to beat the heat and start the climb with water and proper shoes.
The main mainland resort strip, a walkable beachfront of restaurants, bars, shops and boat piers that serves as Krabi's hub. The beach itself is pleasant, and the promenade is the jumping-off point for nearly every boat trip. Free to enjoy; browse a few operators before booking a tour.

Richer and sweeter than most Thai curries, it reflects the region's Muslim heritage and is often ranked among the world's best dishes.
Eat it with plain rice to balance the richness, and seek out a southern-Thai or Muslim restaurant where it is a house specialty rather than a tourist add-on.
A fiercely sour, spicy orange curry built on tamarind and a chili-turmeric paste, usually cooked with fish and vegetables. It is a cornerstone of everyday southern-Thai eating and much hotter and sharper than the curries most visitors know.
It is genuinely spicy and sour, so try a little first with plenty of rice; it pairs especially well with fresh local fish.

Look for it at Muslim-run shops and markets, where it is freshest and most authentic; the dipping sauce is part of the dish, so use it.

Ask for it less sweet ('wan noi') if the standard version is too sugary, and buy from a busy cart for the freshest brew.

수법: A boatman agrees a price, then demands extra once you are out on the water or back on the beach, claiming the trip ran 'overtime' or that the fee was per person, not per boat. In documented cases operators have even altered the time written on a ticket to justify a higher charge.

The fastest way in, around 90 minutes to Krabi International Airport, with frequent budget and full-service flights from both Bangkok airports. From the airport it is a short shuttle or taxi to Ao Nang.
Overnight VIP and express coaches make the long roughly 12-hour run south for a low fare, saving a night's accommodation. Slower than flying but a budget-friendly option; choose a reputable company.
Krabi pairs easily with Phuket next door, linked by frequent minivans and buses in around two to three hours. A cheap, simple overland hop for combining the two coasts.
The iconic wooden longtail is how you reach Railay, Phra Nang and the islands, and a scenic short hop between beaches. Fares are per person on shared boats or negotiated for a private charter; agree the price before departing.
Shared pickup trucks run set routes between Krabi Town, Ao Nang and the airport for a cheap flat fare. Flag one down, tell the driver your stop, and pay on arrival.
The Grab app gives a fixed, fair price and saves haggling with the non-metered taxis, useful for the airport, longer trips or late at night. Availability is good around Ao Nang and Krabi Town.
The dry season from November to March is the best time to visit, with calm Andaman seas, sunshine and reliable island-hopping, and it is also the busiest and priciest window, peaking around December and January. April and May are very hot before the rains. The southwest monsoon from roughly May to October brings heavier rain, rougher seas and stronger currents, when some longtail crossings and island tours are cancelled on bad days, though prices drop and the landscape turns lush and green.
Ao Nang has the most hotels, restaurants and transport connections and is the easiest base for day trips. Railay is more beautiful and laid-back but smaller, pricier and reachable only by boat. Many visitors base in Ao Nang and day-trip to Railay, or split their stay between the two.
By shared longtail boat from Ao Nang beach, which leaves once it has around eight to ten passengers, for a standard per-person daytime fare. The crossing takes about 15 minutes; after dark fares rise and you may need a private charter.
