The driverless Doha Metro Red Line runs directly from Hamad International Airport into the city in around half an hour for a very low flat fare. The cheapest and easiest option if you are not carrying much luggage.
Metered turquoise Karwa taxis wait at the official airport rank and reach central Doha quickly. Straightforward and honest, and a good choice with luggage or on a late-night arrival.
Uber and Careem operate in Doha with the fare shown before you book, avoiding any confusion over price. A comfortable door-to-door option, though pickup points at the airport are signposted separately.
A modern, spotless and air-conditioned driverless network of three lines linking the airport, West Bay, Msheireb and many key sights. Fast, cheap and easy, with a rechargeable Travel Card and connecting metrolink shuttle buses.
The official metered turquoise taxis are safe, clean and inexpensive, useful where the metro does not reach. Insist on the meter, and note they can be busy at peak times and in bad weather.
App ride-hailing works well across the city with upfront pricing and card payment. Handy at night, in the heat, or for trips off the metro map, and often similar in cost to a taxi.
The waterfront and districts like the souq and Katara are pleasant on foot in the cooler months and evenings. In summer the heat makes long walks difficult, so plan for shade and air conditioning.
The comfortable season runs from November to March, with warm, dry, sunny days ideal for the Corniche, the desert and outdoor dining. April and October are hot but bearable, while May to September is extremely hot and humid, often above 40C, when life moves indoors to malls and air-conditioned spaces.
Three to four days is enough to see the main museums, Souq Waqif, Katara and the Corniche at a relaxed pace, with a half-day trip into the desert or to the Inland Sea. It also works well as a stopover of one or two days between flights.
Yes, Doha is one of the safest cities in the region with very low street crime. The main things to watch are taxi drivers who avoid the meter, marked-up souq prices and the extreme summer heat, rather than any serious personal danger.

Qatar is conservative, so cover your shoulders and knees in public and dress modestly, especially at religious and heritage sites. Alcohol is legal but sold only in licensed hotel bars and restaurants; do not drink in public or appear intoxicated in the street.
Visit between November and March for warm, dry and pleasant weather. Avoid the May to September summer if you can, when temperatures often exceed 40C with high humidity and outdoor sightseeing becomes uncomfortable.
