A roughly two-kilometre circuit along the top of Dubrovnik's medieval fortifications, with sweeping views over the Old Town's rooftops and the Adriatic Sea. Go early morning or just before sunset to avoid the worst of the heat and crowds.
The marble-paved streets, baroque churches and stepped side lanes inside the walls are free to wander at any hour, though they empty out noticeably after the day-trip crowds leave in the late afternoon.
A short cable car climbs from just outside the walls to a viewpoint on Mount Srđ, high above the city, with a panoramic outlook over the Old Town, the harbour and nearby islands. Round-trip tickets can be bought online to skip the queue.
A guided kayak paddle along the base of the City Walls and out to nearby caves and coves, usually finishing with a swim stop. Morning tours avoid the strongest afternoon sun and boat traffic.

The colour alone surprises most first-time visitors, who rarely expect a savoury risotto to look almost like ink.
The black temporarily stains your teeth and lips, which is completely normal and part of the fun.
Meat, seafood or octopus slow-cooked with vegetables under a heavy bell-shaped lid buried in hot coals for hours, producing tender, smoky, melt-in-the-mouth results. It is a communal, occasion dish rather than a quick meal, and most restaurants need it ordered several hours in advance.

It is considered one of Dalmatia's great celebration dishes, often reserved for Sundays and special occasions.

The airport sits south of the city with a shuttle bus timed to flight arrivals running into the Old Town area. Taxis and rideshare are also available outside arrivals.
A scenic option along the Dalmatian coast, though journey times and schedules vary by season and operator. Book ahead in summer, as popular sailings fill up.
Comfortable coaches run along the coastal highway several times a day and are usually the most flexible option outside peak ferry season.
The Old Town is entirely car-free and compact enough to cross on foot in about twenty minutes, though the marble streets can be slippery when wet.
Buses connect the Old Town gates with the port, bus station and surrounding neighbourhoods. Buy tickets from a kiosk or the driver, as prices differ between the two.
Convenient for luggage or a direct arrival, but confirm the fare or metered rate before departing, especially from taxi ranks right at the port.
Late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) bring warm, sunny weather without the peak summer heat and heaviest cruise crowds. July and August are hottest and busiest, while cruise ship schedules can make the Old Town very crowded around midday even outside peak season.
Two to three days cover the Old Town, the City Walls and a cable car trip comfortably, with an extra day useful for an island boat trip or a slower pace.
Prices inside the Old Town, especially for seafood and sea-view restaurants, run noticeably higher than in the rest of Croatia, so eating a few streets back and checking prices before ordering helps control costs.
Midday to mid-afternoon on days when multiple ships are in port sees the heaviest crowds inside the walls; early morning and evening are consistently calmer.
Not for the Old Town itself, which is car-free and walkable. A car, bus or organized tour is more useful for reaching nearby beaches, islands or coastal towns outside the city.
The full loop involves a fair number of steps and some steep sections with little shade, so it is moderately demanding rather than strenuous. Carry water and take breaks at the viewpoints along the way.
