The airport is close to town, so a fair metered ride is short and cheap. Insist on the meter or agree a price first, and use the official rank rather than a driver who approaches you in the terminal.

Airport shuttle bus
The Centrotrans shuttle links the airport with the centre for a few marka and is the cheapest comfortable option. Buy the ticket from the driver and keep small cash ready.

Single tram or trolleybus ticket
Buy a paper ticket at a kiosk before boarding, or pay a little more to the driver, and validate it on board. Inspectors do check, and riding without a valid ticket means a fine.

Bosnian coffee in a cafe
A traditional coffee served in a copper džezva with a cube of sugar and Turkish delight is cheap and meant to be lingered over. Old-town terraces cost a little more for the setting.

A portion of grilled minced-meat sausages in fresh somun bread with onion is filling and inexpensive. Order by the number of pieces (usually five or ten), and eat where locals queue on Bravadžiluk street.

Sarajevo is very good value by European standards. A hearty sit-down meal of traditional dishes with a drink stays cheap, and tipping is a modest rounding-up rather than a fixed percentage.

Short city taxi ride
Licensed taxis are inexpensive and metered. Choose a marked company taxi from a rank or booked by phone or app, confirm the meter is running, and avoid unmarked cars offering a flat fare.
