The scant remains of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, a monumental tomb built for King Mausolus around 350 BC. Little survives above foundation level, but an on-site model and descriptions help fill in the picture.

The most direct option for the roughly 35km, 35-40 minute drive from Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) into town. Agree or confirm the fare before departing.
A cheaper shared shuttle connects the airport with central Bodrum and some peninsula towns, timed loosely around flight schedules. Slower than a taxi but a fraction of the cost.
Ferries link Bodrum's harbour with Kos, Greece, in about an hour, making a same-day or onward Greek-islands trip possible. Bring a passport for the border crossing.
The main way locals and budget travellers get around the peninsula, connecting Bodrum town with Gümbet, Bitez, Yalıkavak, Turgutreis and other bays cheaply and frequently in season.
Useful for reaching a specific beach club or restaurant outside town, or for late-night trips when dolmuş services have stopped. Confirm the fare or insist on the meter.
Small boats connect some coves and beach clubs directly by sea in peak season, a scenic if pricier alternative to a road-based dolmuş or taxi.
May-June and September-October bring warm, swimmable weather without the peak-August crowds and prices, making them the sweet spot for a Bodrum trip. July and August are intensely popular and hot, with beach clubs and gulet trips at their busiest and most expensive. Winter is quiet, mild by northern-European standards, and many seasonal businesses close, so it suits a low-key visit rather than a beach holiday.
Three to four days lets you see the castle and old town, take a gulet day trip, and spend at least one full beach day without rushing. Add a day if you want to cross to Kos or explore further round the peninsula.
Beaches, boats and nightlife are the main draw; the castle and Mausoleum give a real dose of ancient Halicarnassus, but Bodrum is a beach-and-boat resort town first rather than a dense historic-sightseeing destination like Ephesus or Istanbul.
Yes, a passenger ferry crosses in about an hour, making Kos a realistic day trip or the start of a wider Greek-islands leg. Bring your passport, since this is an international border crossing.
In peak season it's worth booking a day ahead through your hotel or an established agency, both to secure a spot and to avoid pressured last-minute offers from touts at the harbour.
