The frequent public buses run the length of the Hotel Zone and into downtown for a low flat fare. Pay the driver in pesos and keep small change handy.

Shared vans along the coast toward Playa del Carmen are a cheap way to reach cenotes and towns. Tell the driver your stop and pay the posted fare in pesos.
