Tổng quan

Hurghada is Egypt's best-known Red Sea resort town, a long strip of beaches, marinas and hotels facing some of the clearest, warmest water and richest coral reefs in the world. Once a small fishing village, it now stretches for kilometres along the coast, from the older inland quarter of El Dahar with its markets and…

Giftun Island and Orange Bay

A boat day trip out to the protected Giftun marine park, with snorkelling over vivid coral, time on white-sand beaches and a lunch on board. Orange Bay is the most popular sandbank stop. Book with a reputable operator, and expect the reef, not the on-board extras, to be the highlight.

Diving and snorkelling

Hurghada is one of the world's great diving hubs, with warm water, easy reefs and dozens of PADI centres offering intro dives and full courses. Even non-divers can snorkel straight off many house reefs. Choose a well-reviewed centre and check that equipment is well maintained.

Desert safari

Afternoon and sunset trips into the Eastern Desert by quad bike, buggy or jeep, usually ending at a Bedouin camp with tea, a simple dinner and stargazing. Great fun but dusty and bumpy, so wear a scarf and sunglasses and agree exactly what the trip includes.

Hurghada Marina

The waterfront marina is the town's evening heart, a promenade of restaurants, cafes, shops and moored yachts that comes alive after dark. Pleasant for a stroll and dinner, though prices are higher than in El Dahar. A relaxed place to end a day on the water.

The must-try local dishes, sweets and fruits — including the exotic ones you won't find back home.

KoshariDishDina Said / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Koshari

Egypt's beloved national street dish: a hearty, all-vegetarian bowl of rice, lentils and macaroni topped with a spiced tomato sauce, tangy garlic-vinegar dressing and a mound of crispy fried onions. Cheap, filling and found at dedicated koshari shops all over town.

Ask for extra crispy onions and both the tomato and the sharp garlic-vinegar sauce on top, and stir it all together before eating.

Grilled Red Sea seafoodDishMohamed kamal 1984 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Grilled Red Sea seafood

Being on the coast, Hurghada excels at fresh fish and seafood, typically grilled simply over charcoal with lemon, garlic and cumin and served with rice, salad and tahini. Sayadeya, spiced fish over caramelised-onion rice, is a local favourite.

At fish restaurants you often pick your fish from the ice; confirm the price per kilo and the weight before it is cooked to avoid a surprise on the bill.

Ta'meya (Egyptian falafel)DishMiansari66 / Wikimedia Commons (CC0)

Ta'meya (Egyptian falafel)

Egypt's version of falafel, made from fava beans rather than chickpeas, giving a greener inside and a crisp, herby crust. Served hot in bread with tahini, salad and pickles, it is a classic cheap breakfast and street snack across Hurghada's old town.

Eat it fresh from the fryer while still crunchy, stuffed into baladi bread with plenty of salad and tahini for a filling few-dollar meal.

Om Ali

Egypt's signature warm dessert, a rich bread-or-pastry pudding baked in sweetened milk with nuts, raisins and coconut until golden and bubbling, a bit like a Middle Eastern bread-and-butter pudding. Comforting, creamy and served hot.

It is best eaten straight from the oven while hot; order it to share at the end of a seafood dinner.

Karkade (hibiscus tea)DrinkSteven Sun / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Karkade (hibiscus tea)

A deep-red infusion of dried hibiscus flowers, drunk cold as a refreshing summer cooler or hot in the cooler months, tart, floral and a distinctly Egyptian drink of hospitality. It is caffeine-free and often served sweetened.

Cold karkade over ice is the perfect antidote to the Red Sea heat; try it alongside fresh mango or guava juice from a town stall.

Egyptian mango

Egypt grows some of the most prized mangoes in the world, with late-summer varieties famous for intense sweetness and fragrance. In season, juice stalls and markets overflow with them, and a fresh mango juice is one of the country's great cheap pleasures.

Mango season peaks from mid-summer into autumn; ask for a freshly pressed juice with no added sugar to taste the fruit at its best.

Book everything — at the honest price

Trzly compares across the big providers and points you to the cheapest. We don't take your booking or hold your money — we send you straight to the source, name the price, and warn you about scams.

How Trzly ranks

Cheapest for you first — never by commission. When booking direct is cheaper, we say so, even when we earn nothing. Rank order is a function of price and trust only.

Insider tricks for the lowest price

Real tactics that actually save you money — we surface them, not just talk.

  • Always pay in the local currency — decline "pay in your currency" (DCC) to save 3–7%.
  • Open in a private window and clear cookies — some sites raise the price on repeat visits.
  • A transit/layover flight is usually cheaper than a direct one — worth the stop.
  • Book flights on Tuesday/Wednesday; avoid Friday and Sunday.
  • Book hotels direct on their own site — the member rate often beats the middlemen.
  • Ask for the "app-only rate" — often hidden from the public price.
  • Free cancellation? Book now and re-book if the price drops later.
  • Buy attraction tickets on the official site, not a reseller — no service fee.
  • A local eSIM instead of roaming — up to 90% cheaper.
  • Set a price alert and watch for the drop before high season.

Di chuyển đến & xung quanh

Giá cước thực tế, không phải giá du khách.

Cách đến đó
Airport taxi 20 phút6-15 US$

Hurghada International Airport is only a short drive from most hotels. Taxis are quick and convenient but unmetered, so agree the fare before setting off and use the official rank rather than a tout approaching you in the terminal.

Private transfer 20 phút10-25 US$

A pre-booked private car or hotel transfer is the smoothest way from the airport, with a fixed price and a driver waiting. It costs a little more than a haggled taxi but removes the fare negotiation, which is handy after a long flight.

Hotel shuttle 30 phút5-15 US$

Many resorts and package deals include or offer a shuttle bus from the airport, shared with other guests. Slower than a private car as it may make several hotel stops, but cheap, comfortable and hassle-free.

Di chuyển xung quanh
Town taxi2-5 US$

Unmetered taxis are the main way to move between Hurghada's spread-out districts. Negotiate the fare first, keep small notes, and expect short trips within town to cost only a few dollars if you agree the price up front.

Shared microbusMiễn phí – 1 US$

Local shared minibuses run up and down the main coastal road for a tiny fixed fare, flagged down and paid in cash. Cheap and used by residents, though routes and stops take a little local knowledge to work out.

Walking the marina and beachfront

The marina, promenades and hotel beach strips are pleasant on foot, especially in the evening. Distances between districts like El Dahar and the marina are too far to walk, so pair walking with the occasional taxi.

Tháng 3–Tháng 5 và Tháng 10–Tháng 11

Spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) offer the most comfortable mix of warm sunshine, hot but bearable days and ideal sea temperatures. Summer (June to August) is very hot inland but still popular for the water, while winter is mild and sunny by day with cooler evenings and slightly cooler sea, making it a favourite escape from European cold. Diving and snorkelling are good year round.

An toàn

Thận trọngThe Red Sea sun is intense, especially in summer and out on the water where the breeze hides how much you are burning. Use high-factor sunscreen, cover up, drink plenty of water, and take shade in the hottest afternoon hours to avoid heatstroke and severe sunburn.
Thận trọngThe sea is beautiful but has real hazards: strong currents off some reefs, sharp coral, sea urchins and boat traffic. Wear reef shoes, never stand on or touch coral, follow your dive or snorkel guide, and only swim in marked or supervised areas.
Thận trọngBeachwear is fine at resorts and on the beach, but Hurghada is still an Egyptian town and more modest dress is respectful in El Dahar, markets and mosques. Away from the resort strip, covering shoulders and knees and keeping public affection low-key avoids unwanted attention.

Viên ngọc ẩn

Head inland to El Dahar in the early evening to eat koshari and grilled seafood where residents do, at a fraction of marina prices and with far more local character.
Ask a dive centre about the quieter northern reefs and wrecks rather than only the busy Giftun stops, for clearer water and fewer boats over the coral.
Cool off with a cold karkade (hibiscus) and a fresh mango or guava juice from a town juice stall, an Egyptian summer ritual that costs about a dollar.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

How many days do I need in Hurghada?

Three to five days suits most visitors: a couple of days on boat and diving trips, a desert safari, an evening at the marina and time to relax by the sea. Add more if you plan a day trip to Luxor or want to dive a full course.

Can I do a day trip to Luxor or the pyramids from Hurghada?

Luxor is around four to five hours away by road and is a long but popular full-day trip to see the temples and Valley of the Kings. Cairo and the Giza pyramids are much further and are better as an overnight or a short flight rather than a single day.

Is Hurghada safe for tourists?

Yes, Hurghada is a well-established resort town and serious crime against visitors is rare. The main issues are unmetered taxis overcharging, pushy bazaar sales and the strong sun, all of which are easily managed with a little care and by agreeing prices in advance.

Do I need to cover up or dress conservatively?

Beachwear is completely normal at resorts and on the beach. Away from the tourist strip, in El Dahar, the souk and near mosques, more modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is respectful, and a scarf is useful for women visiting a mosque.

What money should I bring and are cards accepted?

Egypt uses the Egyptian pound (EGP). Cards work in hotels, larger restaurants and dive centres, but carry cash in pounds for taxis, the souk, street food, tips and small excursions. Have small notes ready, as change can be scarce.
