The bus between Federico Garcia Lorca (GRX) airport and the centre is timed to flights and stops near the cathedral, Gran Via and the bus station. By far the cheapest option, though it runs only around arrivals rather than frequently.
Metered taxis wait outside arrivals and reach the centre in about 25 minutes, with a fixed airport supplement and higher night and weekend fares. Convenient with luggage; confirm the meter is running.
Granada's station is linked by high-speed AVE trains to Madrid, Cordoba, Seville and beyond, a comfortable way to arrive from other Spanish cities. Book ahead for the cheapest fares; the station is a short taxi or bus ride from the centre.
Frequent buses, including the LAC line and the small C-line minibuses, are the practical way up to the Alhambra, Albaicin and Sacromonte, whose steep lanes larger buses cannot reach. A rechargeable Credibus card lowers the fare.
Metered white taxis are affordable for hops across the hills and for reaching the Alhambra with less climbing. Ranks are easy to find in the centre, and short rides cost only a few euros.
The historic core is compact and made for walking, but the Albaicin and Sacromonte are steep and cobbled. Comfortable shoes are essential, and a bus or taxi saves your legs on the climbs in summer heat.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best times, with warm days, cool evenings and the Sierra Nevada often still snow-capped behind the Alhambra. July and August are hot and busy, though the altitude keeps nights bearable, while winter is cold and quieter, with skiing up in the nearby Sierra Nevada.
Two full days let you see the Alhambra properly, wander the Albaicin and Sacromonte, visit the cathedral and Royal Chapel and enjoy the tapas scene. A third day is ideal if you want a slower pace or a trip up to the Sierra Nevada.
