概览

Doha is the capital of Qatar and the heart of the country, a fast-modernising city on the Arabian Gulf where a wall of glass towers looks across the water to a restored old market and a fort-like museum. It is compact and easy to cover in a few days, built around the curving Corniche waterfront that links the West Bay…

Taste it here

The must-try local dishes, sweets and fruits — including the exotic ones you won't find back home.

Machboos (Majboos)DishMiansari66 / Wikimedia Commons (CC0)

Machboos (Majboos)

Qatar's national dish, a fragrant one-pot of spiced basmati rice cooked with meat, chicken or seafood, dried lime (loomi), cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. It is the centrepiece of family gatherings and the dish most worth seeking out at a traditional restaurant.

Look for it at a Qatari or Gulf restaurant rather than a generic buffet; the dried-lime tang is the sign of the real thing.

HareesDishMiansari66 / Wikimedia Commons (CC0)

Harees

A comforting, porridge-like dish of cracked wheat slow-cooked with meat and butter until smooth and creamy, seasoned simply and often topped with ghee. It has deep Bedouin roots and is especially associated with Ramadan and Eid.

It is mild and soothing rather than spicy, and a good gentle introduction to Qatari home cooking.

BalaleetDishDroodkin / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Balaleet

A distinctive sweet-and-savoury dish of vermicelli noodles cooked with sugar, cardamom, saffron and rosewater, then topped with a thin savoury omelette. Traditionally eaten at breakfast, it is a beloved contrast of sweet noodles and egg.

Try it in the morning at a local Gulf breakfast spot; the mix of sweet and savoury surprises most first-timers.

LuqaimatSweetWikiemirati / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Luqaimat

Small deep-fried dough dumplings, crisp and golden outside and soft within, drizzled with date syrup or sugar syrup and sometimes sesame. A favourite sweet at Ramadan and in cafes across Doha, usually served warm with tea.

Best eaten fresh and hot from the fryer, when the syrup-soaked outside is at its crispest.

Khanfaroosh

A traditional Qatari fried cake or fritter flavoured with cardamom, saffron and rosewater, crisp at the edges and lightly sweet, often eaten with karak tea. It is a nostalgic local treat found at Souq Waqif and heritage cafes.

Pair it with a cup of karak in the evening at the souq for a very local snack.

Karak teaDrinkGaurav Dhwaj Khadka / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Karak tea

A strong, sweet spiced milk tea brewed with black tea, evaporated milk, sugar and cardamom, and the everyday social drink of Qatar. Sold cheaply at roadside cafeterias, it is often ordered from the car window on the way somewhere.

A cup costs only small change; join the locals at a drive-through karak stand for the full experience.

Dates

Dates are central to Qatari hospitality, traditionally offered to guests with Arabic coffee (gahwa) and eaten to break the fast in Ramadan. Markets and shops sell many varieties, from soft and syrupy to firm, often stuffed with nuts.

Buy a mixed box from the souq as a light, authentic souvenir, and try them with a cup of cardamom-scented Arabic coffee.

Book everything — at the honest price

Trzly compares across the big providers and points you to the cheapest. We don't take your booking or hold your money — we send you straight to the source, name the price, and warn you about scams.

How Trzly ranks

Cheapest for you first — never by commission. When booking direct is cheaper, we say so, even when we earn nothing. Rank order is a function of price and trust only.

Insider tricks for the lowest price

Real tactics that actually save you money — we surface them, not just talk.

  • Always pay in the local currency — decline "pay in your currency" (DCC) to save 3–7%.
  • Open in a private window and clear cookies — some sites raise the price on repeat visits.
  • A transit/layover flight is usually cheaper than a direct one — worth the stop.
  • Book flights on Tuesday/Wednesday; avoid Friday and Sunday.
  • Book hotels direct on their own site — the member rate often beats the middlemen.
  • Ask for the "app-only rate" — often hidden from the public price.
  • Free cancellation? Book now and re-book if the price drops later.
  • Buy attraction tickets on the official site, not a reseller — no service fee.
  • A local eSIM instead of roaming — up to 90% cheaper.
  • Set a price alert and watch for the drop before high season.

交通与出行

真实票价,而非游客价。

如何到达
Red Line metro from the airport 35分钟US$1

The driverless Doha Metro Red Line runs directly from Hamad International Airport into the city in around half an hour for a very low flat fare. The cheapest and easiest option if you are not carrying much luggage.

Karwa airport taxi 25分钟US$14-20

Metered turquoise Karwa taxis wait at the official airport rank and reach central Doha quickly. Straightforward and honest, and a good choice with luggage or on a late-night arrival.

Ride-hailing from the airport 25分钟US$12-22

Uber and Careem operate in Doha with the fare shown before you book, avoiding any confusion over price. A comfortable door-to-door option, though pickup points at the airport are signposted separately.

当地出行
Doha MetroUS$1

A modern, spotless and air-conditioned driverless network of three lines linking the airport, West Bay, Msheireb and many key sights. Fast, cheap and easy, with a rechargeable Travel Card and connecting metrolink shuttle buses.

Karwa taxiUS$3-8

The official metered turquoise taxis are safe, clean and inexpensive, useful where the metro does not reach. Insist on the meter, and note they can be busy at peak times and in bad weather.

Uber and CareemUS$4-10

App ride-hailing works well across the city with upfront pricing and card payment. Handy at night, in the heat, or for trips off the metro map, and often similar in cost to a taxi.

Walking the Corniche

The waterfront and districts like the souq and Katara are pleasant on foot in the cooler months and evenings. In summer the heat makes long walks difficult, so plan for shade and air conditioning.

最佳出行时间

一月–三月和十一月–十二月

The comfortable season runs from November to March, with warm, dry, sunny days ideal for the Corniche, the desert and outdoor dining. April and October are hot but bearable, while May to September is extremely hot and humid, often above 40C, when life moves indoors to malls and air-conditioned spaces.

安全

注意Summer heat in Doha is severe, regularly topping 40C with high humidity, and poses a real risk of heat exhaustion. Carry water, stay in shade and air conditioning through the middle of the day, and save outdoor sights for early morning or evening.
注意Traffic can be fast and assertive, and pedestrian crossings are limited on big multi-lane roads. Cross only at proper crossings, take particular care as a pedestrian, and wear a seatbelt in every taxi and car.
注意Qatar is a conservative Muslim country with strict laws. Dress modestly in public, covering shoulders and knees, avoid public displays of affection and swearing, and note that alcohol is served only in licensed hotel venues and public intoxication is an offence.

隐藏胜地

Watch the sunset from MIA Park with the West Bay towers glowing across the bay, then walk down to the traditional wooden dhows in the harbour.
Explore Msheireb Downtown, a walkable modern district built in restored Qatari style, and visit the free Msheireb Museums in the old heritage houses.
Spend a relaxed evening at Katara, combining a gallery or the amphitheatre with dinner and a stroll along its public beach away from the malls.

常见问题

How many days do I need in Doha?

Three to four days is enough to see the main museums, Souq Waqif, Katara and the Corniche at a relaxed pace, with a half-day trip into the desert or to the Inland Sea. It also works well as a stopover of one or two days between flights.

Is Doha safe for tourists?

Yes, Doha is one of the safest cities in the region with very low street crime. The main things to watch are taxi drivers who avoid the meter, marked-up souq prices and the extreme summer heat, rather than any serious personal danger.

What is the cheapest way from the airport to the city?

The driverless Red Line metro runs directly from Hamad International Airport into central Doha in about half an hour for a very low flat fare. A metered Karwa taxi or a ride-hailing app is easy too and better if you have heavy luggage or arrive late.

Do I need to dress conservatively and can I drink alcohol?

Qatar is conservative, so cover your shoulders and knees in public and dress modestly, especially at religious and heritage sites. Alcohol is legal but sold only in licensed hotel bars and restaurants; do not drink in public or appear intoxicated in the street.

When is the best time to visit Doha?

Visit between November and March for warm, dry and pleasant weather. Avoid the May to September summer if you can, when temperatures often exceed 40C with high humidity and outdoor sightseeing becomes uncomfortable.
