A dazzling, chaotic capital of temples, street food and river life

概览

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and one of Asia's most exciting cities, a sprawling mix of glittering temples, modern malls, canal-side markets and some of the best street food in the world. The Chao Phraya River threads through the old city, where the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun sit within easy reach of each other, while the newer districts hum with rooftop bars and the elevated Skytrain. It is hot, busy and endlessly stimulating, best tackled with an early start, plenty of water and a relaxed attitude to the traffic and crowds. Getting around is easy and cheap once you use the Skytrain, metro and river boats instead of getting stuck in road traffic. Bangkok is also famous for a handful of well-known tourist scams, almost all avoidable with a little awareness. Eat at the busy street stalls, temple-hop in the cool of the morning, and give the city a few days to reveal its rhythm.

公道价与防骗盾

当地人付多少——掏钱前先核对报价。

Single BTS Skytrain ride
每程
THB 18-71 · US$1-2

Fares depend on distance and are very cheap. Buy a single-journey card from the machine or tap a stored-value card. The Skytrain avoids the notorious road traffic.

Airport Rail Link to the city
每人
THB 18-54 · US$1-2

The train from Suvarnabhumi Airport into the city is fast and costs a fraction of a taxi. It connects to the Skytrain and metro for onward travel.

Short metered taxi ride
每程
THB 54-179 · US$2-5

Always insist the driver uses the meter. If a driver refuses or quotes a flat fare, wave them on and take the next one, or use a ride-hailing app instead.

Street pad thai or noodle dish
per plate
THB 36-107 · US$1-3

The busy street stalls with a crowd of locals are cheapest, freshest and safest. A plate of noodles costs a fraction of a restaurant and is often better.

Mid-range restaurant meal
每人
THB 179-536 · US$5-15

Air-conditioned restaurants cost more than street food but are still cheap by Western standards. Local canteens and food courts in malls offer great value meals.

One-hour Thai massage
每人
THB 214-536 · US$6-15

Traditional massage shops are inexpensive and plentiful. Prices are usually clearly posted, so choose a clean, reputable-looking place and agree the price and length first.

Bottle of water from a shop
每瓶
THB 7-21 · US$0-1

Bottled water is essential in the heat and very cheap from convenience stores. Buy from shops rather than stalls right beside major sights, which charge more.

常见骗局

'Grand Palace is closed' gem-shop scam

手法: A friendly stranger or tuk-tuk driver near the Grand Palace tells you it is closed today for a holiday or ceremony, then offers a cheap tour that ends at gem or tailor shops where you are pressured to buy.

如何避免: The Grand Palace is open daily to visitors during normal hours. Ignore anyone outside saying it is closed, walk to the official entrance and check for yourself, and never accept a surprise 'tour'.

Tuk-tuk overcharge and detours

手法: Tuk-tuk drivers quote a very high fare, or a suspiciously cheap one that involves forced stops at shops for their commission, or take long detours to run up the price.

如何避免: Agree the full price before getting in, know roughly what a fair fare is, and refuse any 'shopping stops'. For longer trips a metered taxi or ride-hailing app is usually cheaper and simpler.

Gem and tailor 'special deal'

手法: Touts and drivers steer you to gem or tailor shops with tales of a one-day sale or tax-free export, where you are pressured to buy overpriced or fake goods and the driver takes a commission.

如何避免: Never buy gems or bespoke clothing on a stranger's recommendation or a rushed timetable. Thailand has no genuine 'government gem sale', so treat any such pitch as a scam and walk away.

Longtail boat canal tour overcharge

手法: Longtail boat operators at the Chao Phraya piers offer a khlong (canal) tour of Thonburi at an attractive price, then demand far more once you are on the water, add 'per person' or 'per hour' fees that were never mentioned, or refuse to turn back until you pay extra.

如何避免: Agree the full price, the exact route and the number of people and hours before boarding, ideally at an official pier ticket booth. Know the going rate, carry small notes, and refuse any mid-trip surcharges. Booking through a reputable agency or taking a metered public express boat avoids the haggle entirely.

交通与出行

真实票价,而非游客价。

如何到达
Airport Rail Link 30分钟THB 18-54 · US$1-2

A fast, cheap train from Suvarnabhumi Airport into the city, connecting to the Skytrain and metro. The best-value way in, avoiding road traffic. Watch for pickpockets in the crush.

Metered airport taxi 50分钟THB 286-571 · US$8-16

Use the official metered taxi rank outside arrivals, not drivers touting inside. Insist on the meter, expect a small airport surcharge and any tolls, and have small notes ready.

Airport bus 1.2小时THB 36-143 · US$1-4

Budget bus services link the airport with parts of the city. Cheapest but slowest and subject to heavy traffic. Best if you are travelling light and not in a hurry.

当地出行
BTS Skytrain and metroTHB 18-71 · US$1-2

The elevated Skytrain and underground metro are clean, cheap and air-conditioned, and the fastest way across the modern city. Buy a card and avoid the worst rush-hour crowds.

Chao Phraya river boatsTHB 18-179 · US$1-5

Express boats and cross-river ferries connect the main riverside temples cheaply while skipping road traffic. Check which boat line stops where, and pay the conductor on board.

Metered taxiTHB 54-286 · US$2-8

Plentiful and cheap if the meter is used, but slow in Bangkok's heavy traffic. Insist on the meter or use a ride-hailing app, which fixes the fare and avoids haggling.

最佳出行时间

一月–二月和十一月–十二月

The cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable time to visit, with lower humidity and less rain. March to May is very hot, and the rainy season from June to October brings heavy downpours, though they are usually short and travel remains easy.

安全

注意Bangkok is hot and humid year-round. Drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, wear light clothing and sunscreen, and slow your pace in the midday heat.
注意Traffic is heavy and crossing roads can be daunting, with motorbikes weaving between cars. Cross at lights or footbridges, look carefully both ways, and take extra care as a pedestrian.
注意Street food is generally safe and delicious, especially at busy stalls with high turnover. Drink only bottled or filtered water, avoid ice from unknown sources if unsure, and pick stalls that look clean and popular.

隐藏胜地

Take the public Chao Phraya express boat between temples for a cheap river tour that skips the traffic.
Eat where the local queues are longest at a street stall for the freshest, best-value food in the city.
Visit the big temples early in the morning to enjoy them in cooler air and softer light before the tour groups arrive.

常见问题

How many days do I need in Bangkok?

Three to four days covers the main temples, a market, a river trip and some street food and nightlife at a comfortable pace, with time for a day trip if you wish.

What should I wear to visit the temples?

Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered for the Grand Palace and major temples. You may be refused entry or asked to cover up, so carry a light scarf or wear long trousers.

Is the Grand Palace ever closed to tourists?

It is open daily during normal visiting hours. If someone outside tells you it is closed for a holiday and offers a tour, it is a scam. Go to the official entrance and check yourself.

Is street food safe to eat?

Yes, for most visitors. Busy stalls with a high turnover and lots of local customers are your best bet. Drink bottled water and choose freshly cooked, hot dishes.

What is the best way to get around?

The Skytrain, metro and river boats are cheap, fast and avoid the heavy road traffic. For door-to-door trips, use metered taxis or a ride-hailing app rather than tuk-tuks for fixed, fair prices.
