Morocco's largest mosque and the city's icon, built partly over the Atlantic with a 210-metre minaret and a hall for tens of thousands. It is one of the few mosques in the country open to non-Muslims, but only on a guided tour. Buy a ticket for a set tour time, dress modestly and allow around 45 minutes to an hour.
Casablanca's original walled quarter, smaller and less overwhelming than the medinas of Fez or Marrakech, which makes it a gentle first taste of old Morocco. Wander the lanes for spices, textiles, street food and glimpses of everyday life. Come with small cash and a relaxed pace, and be polite but firm with anyone offering to guide you.

Moroccan versions range from lamb with prunes and almonds to chicken with preserved lemon and olives, or fish along the coast. It is the everyday backbone of a Moroccan meal, mopped up with bread.

Look for it at small local eateries in the evening, where a bowl with bread costs very little and is deeply satisfying.

It is offered to guests, sipped through the day and served after almost every meal. The theatrical high pour aerates the tea and builds its foam.
It is served very sweet by default; ask for less sugar if you prefer, and accepting a glass when offered is a warm gesture.

A frequent train runs from a station under the airport terminal to the central Casa-Voyageurs and Casa-Port stations in around forty minutes. By far the cheapest and most reliable link, avoiding traffic and fare haggling. Keep your ticket until you leave the station.
App-based rides such as Careem, inDrive or Heetch operate in Casablanca and are often cheaper and clearer than an airport grand taxi, with the fare set in the app. You will need local data or airport wifi to book and to meet the driver at the pickup point.
Official white grand taxis charge a set fare from the airport into the city, higher at night. Convenient with luggage or on late arrivals, but confirm the fixed price before setting off and use only the official rank outside arrivals.
Small red metered taxis are the everyday way to get around the city and are cheap for short hops. Always insist on the meter; if the driver refuses, take another. They carry up to three passengers and cannot leave the city limits.
A modern, clean tram network links several districts and is very cheap, with a rechargeable card or single tickets. Handy along its routes and free of traffic, though it does not reach every sight. Validate your ticket on boarding.
Apps like Careem, inDrive and Heetch fix the fare in advance and track the route, making them an easy way to avoid meter disputes across the city. Coverage and prices are good throughout central Casablanca.
The downtown, art deco quarter and old medina are walkable and best seen on foot, though the city is large and spread out. Comfortable shoes help, and a taxi or tram covers the longer gaps such as out to the mosque or the Corniche.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most pleasant, with warm, mild days ideal for sightseeing and the Corniche. Summer is warm but tempered by the Atlantic breeze and can be humid, while winter is cool, grey and the wettest season, with occasional rain rolling in off the ocean.
One full day covers the Hassan II Mosque, the old medina, the art deco centre and the Corniche at a relaxed pace. A second day lets you add the Habous quarter, Morocco Mall or a seafood lunch, or use the city as a base before taking the train onward.
