Gambaran keseluruhan

Nice is the unofficial capital of the French Riviera, a sun-warmed city where pastel old-town lanes, a long seafront promenade and a bright pebble bay come together beneath the hills. Days here run at an easy Mediterranean pace: a morning wander through Vieux Nice and the Cours Saleya market, socca eaten hot from the…

The must-try local dishes, sweets and fruits — including the exotic ones you won't find back home.

SoccaDishSocca, a Nice street-food specialty - Myrabella / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0)

Socca

A large, thin pancake of chickpea flour, olive oil and water baked in a wood-fired oven until crisp at the edges and soft in the middle, then cut up and eaten hot with black pepper. It is the classic cheap street food of Nice, sold from stalls in the Old Town and Cours Saleya.

Eat it straight away, standing up and with your fingers, while it is still hot from the pan.

Salade NiçoiseDishSalade Niçoise from Nice - Canterel / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Salade Niçoise

The city's famous salad of tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, tuna or anchovy, black olives, spring vegetables and olive oil, traditionally made without cooked potato or green beans. A fresh, light plate that captures the flavours of the Riviera.

A traditional version stays raw and simple; treat cream or heavy dressings as a sign it is not the authentic Niçoise.

PissaladièreDishPissaladière, a Nice onion tart - Arnaud 25 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Pissaladière

A Niçoise tart on a bread-like base topped with slow-cooked sweet onions, black olives and anchovies, named after the local anchovy paste. It is sold by the slice in bakeries and markets and eaten warm or at room temperature.

Buy a slice from a bakery for a cheap, filling lunch to eat on the go.

Pan-bagnatDishPan-bagnat, a Nice sandwich - Arnaud 25 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Pan-bagnat

A round Niçoise sandwich whose name means 'bathed bread', filling a garlic-rubbed, olive-oil-soaked bun with the ingredients of a salade niçoise. It is the perfect portable beach or picnic lunch across the city.

Buy it a little in advance so the oil and juices soak into the bread, the way it is meant to be eaten.

Tourte de blettesSweetTourte de blettes, a sweet Nice chard pie - Assassas77 / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Tourte de blettes

A distinctive Niçoise pie made with Swiss chard; the sweet version is a dessert filled with chard, raisins, pine nuts and apple, dusted with sugar. It is a surprising local speciality found in the Old Town bakeries.

Ask for the sweet (sucrée) version as a dessert; a savoury version also exists, so check which one you are buying.

Tambang sebenar, bukan harga pelancong.

Cara ke sana
Tram 2 from the airport 30 minUSD 2–3

The modern tram line 2 runs from both airport terminals to the port and centre in around 30 minutes for the price of a single ticket. The cheapest and most reliable airport transfer.

Airport taxi 25 minUSD 32–45

Official taxis charge set approximate fares from the airport to the centre, higher in the evening and with luggage. Best for groups or heavy bags; use only the official rank and confirm the fare.

Bergerak di sekitar
TramUSD 2–3

A clean, frequent tram network links the main districts, the station and the Old Town. The fastest way to move across the city; buy a rechargeable card and mind pickpockets at busy doors.

BusesUSD 2–3

Lignes d'Azur buses reach the hills, the Cimiez museums and nearby coastal towns where the tram does not go. The same ticket and passes apply; validate on boarding.

Walking the centre

The Old Town, seafront and main squares are compact and best explored on foot. Comfortable shoes help on the pebble beach and the climb up Castle Hill.

Masa terbaik untuk melawat

April–Jun dan September–Oktober

Late spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) bring warm, pleasant weather, calmer beaches and thinner crowds than the peak. July and August are hot, very busy and expensive along the coast, while winter is mild and quiet, with bright days but a cooler sea.

Keselamatan

Berhati-hatiPickpocketing is common on the tram, at the station and in crowded parts of the Promenade and Old Town markets. Keep bags zipped and in front, hold your phone firmly, and stay alert as tram doors open and close.
Berhati-hatiBag-snatching from beaches and terraces rises in summer. Never leave valuables unattended on the pebbles while you swim, take only what you need to the beach, and keep bags against you when you rest.
Berhati-hatiRiviera summers can be very hot with strong sun and little shade on the seafront. Carry water, use sunscreen and a hat, and plan the beach or indoor museums for the hottest afternoon hours.

Permata tersembunyi

Ride the free elevator up Castle Hill instead of climbing the stairs, then enjoy the best view over the bay and the terracotta roofs of the Old Town.
Eat socca hot from the pan at a Cours Saleya or Old Town stall, standing up with the locals, for the cheapest and most authentic Niçoise snack.
Follow the coastal path east around the headland to the sheltered bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer, one of the prettiest short trips from the city.

Soalan lazim

How many days do I need in Nice?

Two to three days is enough to explore the Old Town, walk the Promenade, climb Castle Hill and visit the Matisse and Chagall museums, with time for the beach and a day trip along the coast.

What is the cheapest way from the airport to the centre?

Tram line 2 is by far the cheapest and most reliable option, reaching the centre and port in about 30 minutes for the price of a single ticket. Official taxis are faster door-to-door but cost much more.

Are the beaches in Nice sandy?

No, Nice's beaches are pebble rather than sand. Many people rent a lounger at a private beach club, but the public sections are free; bring water shoes and a cushion for comfort.

Is Nice safe for tourists?

Nice is generally safe, but pickpocketing and beach bag-snatching are common in summer around the Promenade, the markets and the tram. Keep valuables secure, watch your things on the beach, and decline petitions and bracelet sellers.

Do I need to speak French?

You can manage with English in tourist areas, but a simple bonjour and merci go a long way and are appreciated. Greeting staff before asking a question is considered basic politeness.
