Fake guides in the medina — Use only licensed guides with an official badge, booked through your riad or a reputable agency. Politely decline unsolicited offers and say you know your way, even if you do not.
Misleading directions for a tip — Use an offline map on your phone and trust it over strangers. Be wary of anyone insisting a lane or sight is closed. If you accept help, agree there is no fee first, or decline and walk on.
The henna grab — Keep your hands to yourself and do not let anyone take your wrist. If you want henna, agree the design and full price clearly in advance and choose an artist with visible prices.

The quickest link into town, as the airport is close to the medina. Insist on the meter or agree a fair fixed fare in advance, and avoid drivers quoting an inflated flat tourist price.

A cheap public shuttle runs between the airport and central stops near the medina and Jemaa el-Fna. Slower and less direct than a taxi, but good value if you travel light.

Many riads arrange a driver to meet you, which removes airport haggling and helps you find your accommodation in the maze of alleys. Confirm the price when booking.

Spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) bring warm, comfortable days ideal for exploring the medina and gardens. Summer, especially July and August, can be extremely hot, often above 38C, while winter days are mild and pleasant with cool evenings.

CautelaThe medina's alleys are a genuine maze with limited signage, and it is easy to get lost, which touts exploit. Download an offline map, note landmarks, and keep the name and a photo of your riad's location to hand.
CautelaSummer heat can be intense with strong sun and little shade in open squares. Carry water, wear a hat and sunscreen, seek shade at midday, and save the souks and gardens for the cooler morning and evening hours.
CautelaScooters and mopeds weave through the narrow medina lanes at speed. Stay to the side, listen for horns, keep children close, and be especially careful at busy junctions and after dark.
